We said goodbye to sweet, wonderful, courageous DeeDee on July 12, 2023. She was a vibrant soul who loved life. Sadly, her body was simply not as strong as her beautiful spirit. We love you forever DeeDee.

Hello! My name is DeeDee. I came from Texas, where I had ended up in a kill-pen with my mom and sister. It wasn't so bad until my mom and sister got rescued and left me behind. I guess no one wanted me. I was so lonely and sad, and I started to get very sick. I got so sick I could barely breathe. But none of the humans there seemed to care. Then, one day, a very kind human came to see me. She seemed to notice that I was sick. She gave me some medicine, and loaded me onto her trailer with some other horses. I was so sick and weak but I wanted to go. I was on the trailer for a very long time, and finally arrived in a place called Arizona. When I got off the trailer I was incredibly weak. I could tell the humans were worried about me. As sick as I was, I was still hungry and thirsty so I ate and drank and tried to make some new friends. A nice man came to examine me the next day. He said I had something called "pneumonia" and that it was so bad he thought I would likely die. But I would not give up. My rescue human gave me shots for 2 months to try and heal me. It finally worked and I started to get better. The nice man says I have a lot of scar tissue in my lungs, but other than that I feel pretty good! I have fun with my friends and love my alfalfa!
